How To Remove False Nails Properly | Soak Off

The best way to remove acrylic is by soaking them off in acetone. Yes, it can be a daunting process and sometimes rather tedious. However, whatever you do, resist the urge to pop them off. It’s extremely damaging to your nails causing them to thin, it can be painful, it can cause your natural nail to split and/or break in uncommon places, and it can make your natural nails sensitive.

Soak offs at the nail salon or with your nail tech usually range between $20-$30. Or you can purchase a bottle of acetone in which they usually range between $5-$15, depending on how many ounces it is, and soak them off yourself. You will also need two bowls and a cuticle pusher and/or orange wood stick. It takes about 45 minutes to 1 hour to do, if you soak both hands at once.

As you’re soaking your hands in the acetone, try to let them sit for at least 15-20 minutes before pulling your hand out. Use the cuticle pusher or orange wood stick to gently push the acrylic off your nail and on to a paper towel. Try to avoid pushing the excess acrylic back in to the acetone. Put your hand back in for another 15-20 minutes and repeat the pushing off of the acrylic on to the paper towel. Complete these steps as necessary until the acrylic is completely gone.
