License VS Certification

There is a HUGE difference between being licensed & just being someone who's just certified.

WHATS THE DIFFERENCE?

LICENSED

  • Holds a state-issued license, obtained through meeting specific educational and regulatory requirements.

  • Authorized to provide a broad range of beauty services, such as hair styling, esthetics, and nail care.

  • Operates under government regulations, subject to state licensing board oversight.

  • Certification may be part of the licensing process for specific skills or specialties.

CERTIFICATION

  • Holds certification in a specialized area of beauty, often obtained through private organizations, schools, or associations.

  • Specializes in a particular skill or technique, like makeup artistry or lash extensions.

  • Provides services within their certified area of expertise.

  • Certification signifies proficiency in a specific skill but doesn't grant broad legal authority.

Having either a license or certification doesn't diminish the skill someone possesses. However, becoming licensed is vital as it is ILLEGAL to do services without a license (depending upon your state & the service)

Many licensed individuals also further their education and become certified in additional areas that peak their interest or that they may want to improve in. In which having your license and certificates within your field not only helps you become expert but it also encourages your clients to trust that you are knowledgeable and capable of taking care of them.
